Controlled Burn is a solo mixed-media exhibition of 15 works that dive into the layered terrain of body, expression, and the edges of canvas and frame. Hilary’s figures emerge in velvet, watercolor, and mixed media — unapologetic and rich, unflinching in gaze, and unafraid to occupy space. There is heat here, but also softness. There is tension that might be sexual, or might be something entirely different. There’s sun rises and sets of fire, tenderness and power, vulnerability and defiance — all held in the same breath. These works invite us to witness not just the body, but the self: raw, imagined, adorned, touched, and utterly present.
